The Surgeons in Action Foundation has arrived in the country to launch a new round of free surgical services at the Police Hospital located within the Kingtom Police Barracks, reinforcing its long-standing commitment to expanding access to essential healthcare in Sierra Leone.

The medical mission forms part of the foundation’s ongoing humanitarian outreach programme, which targets police personnel, their families, and residents of nearby communities who often face barriers to accessing specialised surgical care.

According to ASP Dr. John Mumuneh Konteh, a detailed medical screening process is currently underway. The screening is intended to evaluate patients’ health status and determine their eligibility for surgery, with only those declared medically fit proceeding to the operating stage.

The surgical campaign is scheduled to commence on 2 February 2026 and will address a variety of treatable conditions, including lipoma, hernia, appendicitis, goitre, and other related surgical cases.

Health officials say the initiative significantly reduces the financial burden on patients who would otherwise struggle to afford such procedures, while also strengthening collaboration between local health services and international medical partners.

The free surgeries are expected to have a positive impact on patient outcomes and overall community well-being. Organisers have indicated that additional information and progress updates will be shared as the campaign continues.
