Reacting to the global recognition, the SLMMAJJA said:

“This is like a dream come true to be recognized for your passion and sacrifice in doing something you love for your nation and humanity.

Everyone knows martial arts is my calling, something I have been doing since my days at secondary school. I was unbeatable for quite a long time in my active fighting career. I had the opportunity to compete internationally. I returned to the country to support young people to reach my height and even surpass me in mixed martial arts.

For people to be that far and recognize what I am doing in Sierra Leone is beyond imagination. I am so happy. This recognition is not only for me but all those working with me; it also projects the image of the country positively at the international level.”

Saidu Sesay has not only represented Sierra Leone internationally and brought home laurels, he decided to give back to society by establishing SLMMAJJA, Ultimate African Fighting (UAFL) and Spot the Talents Sierra Leone to discover, promote and mentor talents across the country in mixed martial arts and other sporting and entertainment areas.

He is known to have transformed many vulnerable young people to meaning assets to their families, communities and the nation in general.

With serious challenges in getting funds and supports, he has been steadfast in transforming drug addicts, marginalized and vulnerable youths into law-abiding and productive citizens using sport as a tool.

At his 11 Yamson Lane, Shell New Road, East Freetown, there are always young people who come around for fitness training, mentorship and other personal supports.

To many people who know him, the international recognition is not a surprise.
