A devastating fire outbreak has struck the Bottom Oku Community Wharf in Wellington, Freetown, in the early hour around 3:00 AM on Wednesday 2025. Inferno, which has left the community in shock and despair, was reportedly triggered by an electrical meter explosion caused by poor electricity supply in the area.

According to eyewitnesses, the explosion ignited a rapid spread of flames, consuming several houses before residents could respond. In the aftermath of the disaster, at least five houses have been completely destroyed, leaving many families homeless. The estimated value of properties lost runs into millions of leones, with most belongings reduced to ashes beyond recovery.

Despite the intensity of the blaze, there have been no reported fatalities, offering a small relief to the devastated residents. However, the destruction has left deep scars, with many struggling to come to terms with their losses.

This incident underscores the persistent challenges surrounding the region’s electricity infrastructure. Power supply issues and unstable electrical connections have long been a concern in Wellington and other parts of Freetown. As investigations into the cause of the explosion continue, community leaders and residents are urging authorities to take urgent action in improving the electricity supply and addressing safety concerns to prevent future tragedies.

Emergency response teams have been deployed to assess the damage and provide relief to affected families. Humanitarian organizations and government agencies are being called upon to support the victims in their time of need.

For now, the Bottom Oku community faces an uncertain future as they begin the painful process of rebuilding their lives from the ashes.
