A devastating fire on Sunday, 23rd November 2025, destroyed key facilities at the Kambia Islamic Secondary School (KISS), one of the largest and oldest educational institutions in the Kambia district, the incident, which occurred at around 10:00 a.m., reduced major parts of the school located along Massama road checkpoint to ashes.
According to the principal, Mr. Ahemed Sidique, the fire consumed the classroom block, the Principal’s office, the library, and the vice principal’s office, destroying everything inside, all chairs, desks, doors, windows, books, computers, and other essential learning materials were burnt beyond recovery,” he explained, the damage is estimated to be worth billions of leones.
The Principal’s office suffered the worst destruction, with vital documents, computers, and office equipment completely reduced to ashes, speaking with deep sadness, Mr. Sidique said, we have lost everything, all our important documents, office machines, and teaching materials are gone.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but local authorities have already begun assessing the extent of the destruction, a concerned parent, Mr. Mohamed Kamara, who rushed to the scene, said he tried to help control the fire but was unable to stop the blaze.
When the fire started, I went to the school to see how I could help, but it was too late, the whole building was burnt down to ashes,” he told me, Mr. Sidique, along with parents and community members, is calling on the government of Sierra Leone, development partners, NGOs, community leaders, and other key stakeholders to support the rebuilding of the school.
KISS School is one of the most populated schools in the Kambia district, with a student population of over 1,000, parents, teachers, and students are urgently appealing for swift intervention to ensure that academic activities can resume as soon as possible.
