Police in Mattru Jong have arrested a man for allegedly impersonating a police officer, an act which authorities describe as deeply concerning.

According to Chief Inspector Mohamed Sheriff, Operations Officer of the Bonthe Division, the suspect was taken into custody on Thursday, 21 August 2025, at the main lorry park in Mattru Jong.

The man, identified as Mark Anthoney of 28 Hindowa Street, Bo No. 2, Bo City, was reportedly dressed in full Sierra Leone Police (SLP) uniform and presenting himself as a serving officer.

During questioning, Anthoney claimed to be employed by a private security company he referred to as the Sierra Leone Police Security Agency, allegedly located along the Bo–Kenema Highway and managed by one Mr. Abdul Lumeh. Police have yet to verify the existence or legitimacy of such an agency, raising suspicions that it may have been used as a front for deception.

“The suspect is currently assisting investigators with their enquiries,” Chief Inspector Sheriff confirmed, stressing that impersonation cases are treated with utmost seriousness, as they erode public trust in law enforcement.

Residents of Mattru Jong welcomed the arrest, expressing relief that the alleged impostor was intercepted before he could exploit the community under false pretenses.

Police say investigations are ongoing, and further updates will be provided once inquiries are complete.
