It is with a heavy heart I took to myself to pen down this article for the world to be aware of the dishonesty and heartless behaviours of most of the middle level and skilled workers in Sierra Leone. Most of what I will be highlighting comes from the mayhem that has been caused by the lot of them to us individuals who are struggling to make ends meet as well as trying to embark on various developments for our future and our families.

These skilled workers range from all technical jobs ranging from builders or contractors to electricians, mechanics, carpenters etc. Sometimes, I wonder if it is jealousy, they are having for those that give them these contracts or its just inert attitude that is embedded in them by saying our investments go sour or not achieving our aim.

I will be exposing the personal experiences I faced and most of you will agree with me that this is what is really happening all over our lives with their dishonest acts. I really wonder if these individuals are our Sierra Leonean brothers and sisters or they are not that’s the main reason they all agree to treat us in such manner.

Contractor/builders- one will choose a contractor to build a house for u and you might have agreed on the terms and conditions. And trust you might start on a good footing just because at that time they will be nice knowing full well that they need the job or at that time they are not having a job to do so they prefer to concentrate on your job, what will happen are;

  1. They will start at a good way but hence they have another job they will start to delay your work and hence sending their other workers to the other job causing a delay on your timelines for the job.
  2. If you start pressuring them, they will do a job that is not in consonants on what you required because they want to move to another job.
  3. If you trust them and leave them to do the work allowing a form of trust. Even if it’s your brother or family or friend they will steal your building materials without any hesitation.
  4. If even you have someone supervising the work, they will convince that individual to be part of their stealing scheme, which I sometimes find hilarious as to how they are able to indulge your supervisor into such acts.
  5. If you ask them to buy materials for the work it’s the worst, they will either buy less and manage the job or buy materials that are substandard.

I will go on and on and the dishonest acts are so much that you will wonder.

  1. Mechanics

They see another set of skilled workers that have a lot of distrust in them. That if am comparing they are the second most wicked heartless set of skilled staff.

  1. You will ask they to do a job they will either use a part that is not fit for purpose or take parts from another vehicle to settle your issues, it just shows that they will do the same when you are not around.
  2. They will know that they are not able to do such job but they will take it and may be do worst because it’s not their specialization, causing more harm than good.
  3. They will call exorbitant prices because they know you are not aware of the prices of the parts that you need.
  4. They will cause delays in the work if you are around so you will give up and go
  5. They will take your money and disappear and you will be left wondering where they have been.

By every estimation therefore, these are vices that should be curbed in every respect.
