This paper discusses the importance of quality assurance in Sierra Leonean universities, highlighting essential components and strategies necessary for its implementation.
Defining Quality Assurance:
Quality assurance in the realm of education refers to the systematic monitoring, evaluation, and improvement of educational processes and outcomes to ensure they meet predetermined standards. It involves both internal and external mechanisms aimed at maintaining consistency, relevance, and effectiveness in teaching, learning, and assessment practices.
The Need for Quality Assurance in Sierra Leonean Universities:
In Sierra Leone, the need for robust quality assurance measures in universities is paramount due to several reasons:
- Ensuring Competent Lecturers:
Quality assurance ensures that lecturers possess the necessary expertise to deliver course content effectively. It mandates that lecturers teach modules aligned with their area of specialization, thereby enhancing teaching quality and student learning outcomes.
