The Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) are pleased to acknowledge the findings of a recent survey conducted by the Institute for Governance Reform (IGR), which highlights remarkable improvements in electricity access and reliability across Freetown.
23rd October 2025, according to the IGR report, nearly 80% of residents in Freetown have recognized a significant improvement in electricity supply over the past year a reflection of EDSA’s sustained commitment to delivering stable, efficient, and accessible power to homes and businesses. 83% of residents in the West End reported better and more consistent power supply.77% of respondents in Central Freetown noted improved electricity service. 71% of those in the East End confirmed greater reliability and fewer outages.
Overall, 76% of respondents stated that electricity services have strengthened, while 12% said there was no change and another 12% reported a decline, while the findings are encouraging, the report also acknowledges some ongoing challenges, particularly the rising cost of electricity, which remains a concern for many residents.
EDSA recognizes these concerns and reaffirms its commitment to addressing them through the following measures, reducing electricity costs by improving operational efficiency, ensuring stable voltage and service reliability across all areas, intensifying efforts to curb electricity theft and illegal connections.
We are heartened by the positive feedback from citizens and remain steadfast in our mission to provide consistent, affordable, and transparent electricity services, said Tesman Egbe, Acting Director General of EDSA.
EDSA also extends sincere appreciation to the Ministry of Energy for its continued technical guidance and collaboration in achieving these milestones.
Finally, EDSA expresses its gratitude to the Institute for Governance Reform (IGR) for its commitment to evidence-based research that informs national policy and supports Sierra Leone’s broader energy development agenda.
