A dead body was discovered in the early hours of Thursday morning on Lightfoot Boston Street in central Freetown, directly in front of Access Bank and just a few metres away from the Sierra Leone State House, sparking concern among residents, workers, and passers-by in the area.

Information available at the time of reporting indicates that the body was found lying on the street during the early morning hours by members of the public heading to work and other daily activities. The discovery immediately attracted attention due to the strategic nature of the location, which is surrounded by major financial institutions and key government offices.

The presence of the body in such a high-security zone raised alarm, as Lightfoot Boston Street is a busy commercial corridor that usually experiences heavy foot traffic and is subject to regular security surveillance because of its proximity to State House.

Eyewitness accounts suggest that security personnel were later seen in the area following the discovery. However, as of press time, there was no official confirmation on whether the body had been removed from the scene. Authorities had also not released any formal statement regarding the identity of the deceased or the cause of death.

It remains unclear whether the death resulted from natural causes, an accident, or foul play. Police sources were yet to provide details on how long the body had been at the location before it was discovered.

The incident has heightened anxiety among residents and workers in central Freetown, many of whom pass through the area daily for business and official engagements. The discovery has also renewed public discussions around urban safety, surveillance systems, and emergency response in the capital.

As news of the incident circulated, concerns were raised about the effectiveness of existing security measures in areas considered highly protected. Members of the public are calling on the Sierra Leone Police and relevant authorities to carry out a thorough investigation and provide timely updates to reassure citizens.

At the time of publication, attempts to obtain an official response from the Sierra Leone Police were unsuccessful. The public is now awaiting clarity on the circumstances surrounding the death, including confirmation of the deceased’s identity and any steps being taken to strengthen security in central Freetown.
