Dama Chiefdom Strengthens Police-Community Ties with New Kenema Division Commander

By Emma Black

The executive members of the Dama Chiefdom Policing Partnership Committee (CPPC) paid a courtesy visit to the newly appointed Local Unit Commander (LUC) of the Kenema Division, Chief Superintendent Bob Musa Nazlic Mansaray, in a move aimed at reinforcing collaboration between the police and the community to ensure enhanced safety and security within Dama Chiefdom.

September 13, 2025 CPPC Chairman Mohammed Victor Bockarie warmly welcomed Chief Superintendent Mansaray, expressing gratitude for the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) Kenema Division’s ongoing efforts to integrate community participation in policing activities. He highlighted that the adoption of community policing has already contributed to a notable reduction in crime across the Chiefdom. The discussion also raised urgent local security needs, particularly the establishment of a permanent police post or station, which Dama Chiefdom currently lacks.

Responding to the CPPC, Chief Superintendent Mansaray commended the community’s proactive support for police initiatives, emphasizing that effective policing requires strong cooperation between law enforcement and residents.

Community policing is vital in preventing crime, LUC Mansaray said. Criminal activity flourishes where it is tolerated, but when local authorities and residents work together with the police, crime is effectively deterred.

He urged the CPPC to continue collaborating closely with the police and reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening partnerships across all thirteen chiefdoms under his jurisdiction. Chief Superintendent Mansaray also pledged to personally visit each chiefdom to engage stakeholders and promote joint strategies for community safety.

In closing, the LUC assured the Dama community of his open-door policy and unwavering support in addressing their security concerns, reinforcing the message that sustainable peace and safety depend on active citizen participation alongside the police.
