Security officials and key stakeholders from Kambia District convened on 20 November 2025 at Palmlap for a strategic cross-border meeting aimed at strengthening crime prevention and addressing the rising crime rate in the area.

The meeting was prompted by a recent series of armed robbery attacks targeting fuel stations in both Kambia and Palmlap, which heightened security concerns on both sides of the Sierra Leone-Guinea border.

Addressing the gathering, Local Unit Commander (LUC) Mr. Saio Vandy emphasized the importance of timely information sharing between communities and the police. “Our role as law enforcement officers is to prevent crime in Kambia District,” he stated. He also highlighted the need for stronger collaboration with community stakeholders in Palmlap to ensure safety across the district.

Representatives from other security agencies, including the Office of National Security (ONS) in Kambia, attended the meeting and underscored that proactive crime prevention and prompt reporting are essential for maintaining peace and stability.

Colonel Maria, Commanding Officer for Palmlap, and Lt. Colonel Mohammed Kamokai of the 11th Infantry Battalion in Kambia, stressed the importance of seamless information sharing among security personnel. They reaffirmed their commitment to enforcing law and order and ensuring that anyone involved in criminal activity is held accountable under the law.

Kambia District hosts a major border crossing between Sierra Leone and Guinea, making cross-border cooperation vital for regional security. The meeting concluded with a renewed pledge among all stakeholders to work together to safeguard communities and deter criminal activities along the border.
