The Presiding Magistrate of Kenema Magistrate Court No. 2, Wilbri Hamida M. John, has sentenced 36-year-old mason, Lahai Kallon, to 24 months imprisonment at the Sierra Leone Correctional Service (SLCS) for domestic violence, contrary to Section 2(1) of the Domestic Violence Act No. 20 of 2007.

According to court records, on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Nyandeyama Village, Nongowa Chiefdom, Kenema Judicial District, Eastern Province, Kallon unlawfully disposed of a quantity of cocoa beans valued at One Thousand, one Hundred New Leones (NLe 1,100). The cocoa beans were the property of Mohamed Lahai, his uncle, with whom he shares a domestic relationship and who had a reasonable expectation of their use.

In a separate case, 22-year-old Mohamed Maiga appeared before Magistrate John on charges of wounding, contrary to Section 20 of the Offences Against the Person Act of 1861, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, contrary to Section 47 of the same Act. Maiga pleaded guilty, requested forgiveness, and was sentenced to eight months imprisonment at the SLCS in Kenema.

Both matters were prosecuted by Police Constable 13536 Moseray Sylvester Alfred, attached to the Legal and Justice Support Department at the Kenema Police Division.
