As part of ongoing efforts to curb the smuggling, sale, and abuse of harmful drugs such as Kush, Tramadol, and cannabis sativa, magistrate Joseph Toby of the Kambia district magistrate’s court has sentenced a 20-year-old man to 45 months imprisonment for unlawful possession of Kush.
The sentencing took place on Monday, October 27, 2025, at around 10:00 a.m, ccording to court records, the convict, Alhassan Turay, a known drug dealer residing on Massama Road, behind the Kambia district Lorry Park, was arrested by the Kambia police division operations team, led by Inspector Nelson Jabba, on October 14, 2025, at approximately 12:00 p.m. Turay was found in possession of 100 wraps of dried green leaves suspected to be Kush.
The case was investigated by the transnational organized crime unit (TOCU), after thorough examination of the evidence, Turay was charged with unlawful possession of a narcotic substance and brought before the Kambia district magistrate’s court.
during his first appearance, Turay pleaded guilty and begged for mercy, but his bail application was denied, leading to his remand at the Kambia district correctional centre for one week, upon his second court appearance, he again pleaded guilty, relying on the strength of the evidence presented, magistrate Joseph Toby sentenced him to 45 months imprisonment at the same facility.
In his closing remarks, magistrate Toby reaffirmed his commitment to upholding justice and promoting peace through fair but firm rulings.
my courtroom continues to maintain a firm stance on justice, particularly in drug-related offenses, he said, the judiciary will not relent in its effort to protect the people of Kambia district from the devastating effects of drug abuse.
The sentence is seen as a strong warning to those engaged in the trafficking and consumption of Kush and other illicit substances, as law enforcement authorities in Kambia intensify operations to ensure a drug-free district.
