High Court Judge in Kenema, Hon. Justice Abubakarr Sannoh, has sentenced thirty-seven-year-old Alie Kamara, a welder of Yengema corner in Kenema, to four years imprisonment for shop-breaking and larceny.
The convict, Alie Kamara, was charged to court for shop-breaking and larceny contrary to Section 26(1) of the Larceny Act of 1916.
The convict on January 4, 2024, at Kenema City, with intent, broke and entered into the shop of Fatmata Mustapha and stole ten pieces of assorted coloured lace valued at One Thousand New Leones (NLe1,000.00); ten pieces of assorted coloured wax cotton valued at Three Thousand New Leones (NLe3,000.00); twenty-five single assorted coloured lapper valued at One Thousand Two Hundred and Fifty New Leones (NLe1,250.00); thirty sown native country clothes for women valued at Ten Thousand Five Hundred New Leones (NLe10,500.00); twenty sown native country clothes for men valued at Five Thousand New Leones (NLe5,000.00); twenty-one sown wax cotton assorted coloured clothes valued at Twelve Thousand, One Hundred and Eighty New Leones (NLe12,180.00) and other assorted items all to the total amount of Sixty Seven Thousand, Three Hundred New Leones ( NLe67,300.00) being properties of Fatmata Mustapha.
The Convict pleaded guilty and begged for mercy and was sentenced to 4 years imprisonment effective May 21, 2024.
In another news, Ansumana Kamara, age 25, resident of Torkpombu 2 section in Kenema, was arraigned before Justice Abubakarr Sannoh for larceny in dwelling house contrary to Section 13(1) of the Larceny Act 1916. The accused, Ansumana Kamara, on May 18, 2024 at Kenema City entered into the dwelling house of Massaratu Bangura Davis and stole one iPhone 8+ valued at Six Hundred New Leones (NLe600.00) property of Fatima Kabia. He pleaded guilty and begged for mercy and was sentenced to three years imprisonment.
The matters were prosecuted by Andrew. F. Kamara, State Counsel and Customary Law Officer in Kenema and the convicts were represented by Defence Counsel, Patrick Kamara of Legal Aid Board for Kenema District.
