The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints’ Wellington Stake in the Africa West Area recently took on a massive community project, cleaning and beautifying the Bai Bureh road highway from Rokupa junction to Philip street in the eastern part of Freetown. The event, which took place on Sunday the 17th of August 2025, was observed on Saturday the 16th of August to ensure it did not interfere with church services the following day.
This undertaking was part of the All African Service Project, an annual initiative where members of the Church dedicate their time, effort, and resources to serving the communities around them. President Sammy Baldwin Moses, a leader in the Wellington Stake, highlighted that this project is a way for members to show love and care for everyone, regardless of their circumstances, in line with the teachings of Christ.
Local political authority Councilor Ann Mary Kamara of the Rokupa community expressed her gratitude to the Church for their work in cleaning and painting the highway. She pledged to collaborate with the Church on future projects, recognizing the positive impact their efforts have on the community.
Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyer also commended the Church’s work, noting that their commitment to cleanliness aligns with her administration’s goals for sanitation in Freetown. She expressed her appreciation for the partnership and praised the Church for their contributions to the city.
Bishop Ansumana Sonnah of the Congo Water ward, a member of the Church, emphasized the importance of serving others and caring for the environment. He shared that every individual, regardless of their status in society, benefits from such community projects, reinforcing his belief in following the example of Jesus Christ and obeying God’s teachings. The members of the Wellington Stake are proud to make a positive impact on their community and look forward to future opportunities to serve and uplift those around them.
