The Campaign for Human Rights and Development International (CHRDI) partnered with the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) training department to host a specialized human rights training session for officers at the Police Wives’ Multi-Purpose Hall, Kingtom Police Barracks, on Friday, June 20, 2025, The initiative aims to equip officers with critical knowledge to uphold human rights in their duties.
AIG Andrew Mustapha Kamara, representing Inspector general of police, underscored the training’s importance, this is a vital chance to enhance officers’ skills in handling detainees and conducting fair investigations, ensuring suspects’ rights are respected, he said, encouraging knowledge sharing. CHRDI’s chief executive director, Mr. Abdul M. Fatoma, highlighted his ongoing collaboration with SLP since April, stressing regular training for improved service, respect and professionalism are essential to rebuild trust and ensure community safety, he urged.
DSP Alpha Kamara, head of training, welcomed the session’s timeliness, aligning it with SLP’s duty to protect human rights. Sub-Inspector Mariatu Tutu Jama, a criminal investigation department investigator, praised its relevance, noting it will guide ethical interactions with suspects, complainants, and witnesses.
