The newly appointed Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Sierra Leone, His Excellency Zhao Yong, has paid a courtesy visit to Sierra Leone’s chief justice, Honourable justice Komba Kamanda, reaffirming his commitment to strengthening cooperation between the Chinese Embassy and the country’s Judiciary.
During the meeting, Ambassador Zhao expressed gratitude to the chief justice for the warm reception and praised the long-standing cordial relationship between the judiciary of Sierra Leone and the government of the people’s republic of China, he noted that deepening bilateral ties between the two countries would be a central focus of his diplomatic mission.
The Ambassador emphasized that collaboration with the Judiciary would be a key priority during his tenure, underscoring the importance of judicial cooperation in reinforcing good governance, the rule of law, and mutual development objectives.
In his response, chief justice Kamanda welcomed Ambassador Zhao to Sierra Leone and formally congratulated him on his appointment, he assured the Ambassador of the Judiciary’s continued commitment to maintaining and expanding its productive partnership with the Chinese Embassy.
The chief justice highlighted the tangible benefits the judiciary has gained from its cooperation with China, including institutional support and professional capacity-building initiatives, he expressed appreciation to the Ambassador’s predecessor and the government of the people’s Republic of China for their sustained assistance, notably the donation of motorbikes to the Judiciary last year and ongoing standalone training programmes that have enhanced staff capacity.
Both parties reaffirmed their shared resolve to further strengthen judicial cooperation as part of the broader bilateral relationship between Sierra Leone and the people’s republic of China.
The meeting was attended by supreme court Justices Alusine Sesay and Fatmatta Bintu Alhadi, High court judge Honourable justice Manuella Harding, and legal researcher Alpha Bannie Jalloh, Esq.
