Chief Minister Leads Inter-Ministerial Assessment on Redemarcation of the Western Area Peninsula

Chief Minister and the Assessment Team

An Inter-Ministerial assessment on the redemarcation of the Western Area Peninsula, led by the Chief Minister, Dr. David Moinina Sengeh, was on Tuesday 12th August, 2025 carried out with the participation of key Ministries, Departments, and Agencies. The Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs was represented by its Permanent Secretary, Ms. Judith Jones, Director of Tourism, Travel and Exchange, Mohamed Jalloh, and General Manager of the National Tourist Board, Madam Fatmata Mida Carew, along with their team.

Other ministries present included the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, Ministry of Lands, Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs, Ministry of Information and Civic Education, and representatives from Guma Valley Water Company, among others.

The delegation visited several key sites including Guma, Mile 13, Bio Baray, and Comfort Bridge. It was agreed that established settlements within the demarcated areas would not be demolished; however, residents will be required to pay charges to the government.

During the visit, the team from tourism identified Comfort Bridge as an ideal tourism site.

The assessment also reaffirmed the government’s policy of prohibiting new settlements within park areas, as part of broader efforts to protect the environment and safeguard lives.

This initiative is a significant step in the government’s ongoing commitment to environmental preservation and sustainable land use in the Western Area Peninsula.
