Honourable Chief Justice Komba Kamanda
The Judiciary of Sierra Leone has recently informed the general public that in line with the Honourable Chief Justice Komba Kamanda’s avowed commitment to making justice more accessible, affordable, and responsive to the needs of all citizens, the Court of Appeal will for the first time since the establishment of the Judiciary sit in the provinces to hear and determine appeals emanating from those regions.
It could be recalled that in recent times, Justice Alfred T. Ganda, Justice Simeon Allieu and the late learned Justice Dr. Binneh Kamara were promoted as Judges of the Court of Appeal. CJ Komba is expected to chair the maiden sessions.
This landmark initiative represents a significant step in the ongoing judicial reforms aimed at decentralizing court services, reducing litigation costs, and bringing justice closer to the people.
In pursuit of this goal, the Court of Appeal shall commence its circuit sittings as follows:
Thursday, 27th November 2025, Makeni City, to hear and determine all appeals originating from the North-East and North-Western Regions.
Tuesday, 20th January 2026, Bo City to hear and determine all appeals from the Southern and Eastern Regions.
The Judiciary is calling on all parties to pending appeals from the respective regions, as well as their legal representatives, to cooperate fully with the Court to ensure that the hearings are conducted smoothly, efficiently, and expeditiously.
Speaking on the initiative, the Honourable Chief Justice reaffirmed that this marks a new chapter in the Judiciary’s determination to ensure that no citizen is denied access to justice due to geographical or financial barriers. He emphasized that the Judiciary remains steadfast in its commitment to promoting fairness, transparency, and the rule of law across all corners of the nation.
The Judiciary took the opportunity to thank all stakeholders, including the Office of the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Legal Aid Board for their continued support as it implements what has been described as ‘historic and transformative judicial reforms.’
