Central University has officially signed a landmark partnership agreement with the University of Basilicata in Matera, Italy, under the prestigious EU Erasmus+ Project. The agreement was finalized on September 19, 2025, with Central University’s Chancellor, Dr. Muckson Sesay, representing the institution in Italy.
The newly established cooperation is designed to elevate academic standards and promote international collaboration. It will foster students and faculty exchanges, joint research initiatives, shared teaching programs, and access to advanced resources and facilities.
Dr. Sesay emphasized that the scope of the partnership extends beyond mobility programs, highlighting opportunities for seminars, lectures, and the exchange of scientific knowledge and materials, all aimed at enhancing innovation and strengthening academic collaboration between the two institutions.
“This cooperation will not only benefit our students but will also open new opportunities for our faculty members to engage in joint research and professional growth,” Dr. Sesay explained. “It positions Central University as a strong player in global higher education networks.”
The agreement with the University of Basilicata is part of a broader mission led by Dr. Sesay established Central University as a hub for international partnerships.
Following the Italy signing, Dr. Sesay announced plans to continue the journey across Europe, with scheduled meetings in Rome and Lisbon to engage with academic counterparts from Portugal and Romania.
Education analysts note that partnerships such as this are critical for developing universities, particularly in Sierra Leone, where access to global research networks and academic resources can significantly boost the quality of higher education.
