Residents of the Calabatown community in the Western Area has on Wednesday the 8th October 2025, called for justice following the tragic death of a man identified as Alieu, who was allegedly beaten to death by his co-workers over accusations of stealing a five-gallon container of fuel locally known as one bata fuel.

According to eyewitnesses, the fatal incident occurred around 1:00 a.m. when six men, including a driver, reportedly attacked the victim. The assault, believed to have taken place within the premises of a private company, has left the community in shock and mourning.

One resident, Mr. Mohamed Barrie, said he witnessed the brutal beating but was too afraid to intervene. I saw five men and a driver attacking Alieu. They accused him of stealing fuel. I didn’t step in because I feared for my safety and didn’t want to be implicated, he explained.

Another resident, Mr. Alie Koroma, who later accompanied some of the suspects to the Waterloo Police Station, said he received a phone call around 7:00 a.m. from Mr. Sawaneh, a fuel manager, asking if he knew about the incident. “By the time I got involved, Alieu was already dead,” he said in distress.

Following the incident, company representatives, including Human Resource personnel, convened at the Allentown Junction before proceeding to the Waterloo Police Station, where they gave formal statements to assist police investigations. The deceased’s body was later taken to the 34 Military Hospital in Wilberforce with police support.

Mr. Koroma further revealed that two companies have been linked to the case — one reportedly operating under Orange (IPT) and another known as Angel Security. According to him, two of the suspects work for IPT, while the driver, who was allegedly directly involved, is employed by Angel Security.

He confirmed that three suspects have been arrested so far, and a postmortem examination has already been conducted to determine the cause of death.

It is also alleged that the vehicle used during the incident is owned by Mr. Conteh, the Chief Executive Officer of Angel Security.

Meanwhile, residents of Calabatown, along with family members of the deceased, are urging the Sierra Leone Police and the Ministry of Internal Affairs to ensure that the matter is thoroughly investigated and that justice is served.

This is not the first time people have been treated like this over mere allegations, said a resident who asked not to be named. We want the law to take its course and for those responsible to face the full consequences.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the arrests or the postmortem findings.
