High Court in Kenema

A 45-year-old businessman, Alpha Kaowubu, of Segbwema Town in the Kailahun Judicial District, Eastern Province, has been remanded at the Sierra Leone Correctional Service (SLCS) in Kenema by Magistrate Wilbri Hamida M. John of Magistrate Court No. 2, on a charge of false pretences, the accused was brought before the court on a single count of false pretences, contrary to Section 32(1) of the Larceny Act of 1916.
According to the charge sheet, between April 1 and April 30, 2025, at No. 13 Coker-Jah Street, Kenema, the accused, with intent to defraud, allegedly obtained the sum of Ten Thousand New Leones (NLe 10,000) from Baggie Seabatin Tucker under the false pretext of purchasing a water production machine a claim he allegedly knew to be untrue.
Following the initial hearing, Magistrate John ordered the remand of the accused at the Kenema Correctional Centre, the matter has been adjourned to May 21, 2025, for further proceedings, Police Inspector Aiah Mafinda Teh, attached to the Legal and Justice Support Department of the Kenema Police Division, is prosecuting the matter, while Defense Counsel Banie Junior Sesay is representing the accused.
