Sani Abacha Street is the heart of Freetown, it’s well-known for its ability to host several business ventures that impact daily lives. The recent release from the Ministry of Transportation and Aviation to halt vehicular movement and push cards along Sani Abacha Street from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm daily seems troubling for many who dwell therein.
In an exclusive interview with Sheriff Barrie, Deputy National Secretary General Sierra Leone Importers Association conveyed the association’s stance and emphasized how the decision will bring all business activities with the suitable location to a standstill. He added that it’s a blonder from the Ministry of Transportation, because business people and stakeholders should be involved in that decision and “they should inform us as business people and after that we (us) will make a final agreement before the release, so that the press release will not affect passengers and business people”
Mariatu Conteh, a businesswoman said that they don’t have any other place to do business expect Abacha Street, in that regard she plead to the government for allow them to continued doing their business as usual, “this is the only place am depending to do my sales, I have five children am taking care, two of them are in the university and the three are in the Secondary school all their responsibilities are in me, so please let the government allow us to go our normally sales”
Speaking to Abu Sesay, a driver expressed his feeling by pleading to the government to allow them to carry their loads inside Abacha, to off-load the items of their customers. “I know the government has right to do anything in the country but let them see the interest in that part of country as a way of survival as citizens.”
