An armed robber was shot dead in the early hours of Monday, October 27, 2025, during an attempted burglary at the residence of the director general of the Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA) in Bo.

According to security sources, the incident occurred around 2:00 a.m. when a group of robbers scaled the perimeter fence of the compound in an attempt to steal solar lights.

This is the second time they have tried to steal the solar lights, an armed OSD {operational support division} officer on duty recounted, they brought a ladder and climbed over the fence, one of them entered first to spy the area, while the other followed to remove the lights, that was when I opened fire.

The officer said he fired a single, precise shot that struck one of the robbers, who died instantly inside the compound, the others reportedly fled the scene.

Police from the Bo west division were immediately alerted, and at dawn, the body of the deceased was transported by the police to the Bo government hospital mortuary under armed escort.

When contacted, the Bo police media unit confirmed the incident, describing it as a lawful response within their constitutional duty to combat armed robbery, which has become increasingly frequent in the city.

Residents and observers in Bo expressed relief over the police response, noting that the incident should serve as a strong deterrent to other criminals.
This will send a clear message to those terrorizing peaceful citizens, one resident commented.

Bo has recently witnessed a surge in armed robbery cases, with several victims reportedly macheted, stabbed, or killed during attacks, Authorities have vowed to intensify security operations and enforce strict penalties to restore peace and safety in the region.
