E.U. lauds A.U. for historic continental free trade pact, pledges support

Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, Rashid Sesay, participated in the prestigious World Governments Summit Ambassadors’ Retreat held in Dubai, convened by the World Governments Summit Foundation in collaboration with the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

On the Wednesday 1 October 2025 the retreat brought together ambassadors and heads of diplomatic missions from around the world to discuss strategies for strengthening international cooperation and shaping the future of global governance. The World Governments Summit, held annually, serves as a platform for government leaders, policymakers, and private sector stakeholders to share innovative solutions to pressing global challenges.

At the opening session, H.E. Mohammad Abdullah Al Gergawi, UAE Minister of Cabinet Affairs and Chairman of the World Governments Summit Organization, highlighted the Summit’s vision. He stated, “Guided by the vision of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, the World Governments Summit has become an international platform for joint action, enhancing cooperation among nations, anticipating the future, and enabling governments to develop proactive solutions to humanity’s most pressing challenges.

During the retreat, Ambassador Sesay contributed to a session titled Diplomacy in Action: Collaborative Pathways for a Shared Future, where discussions centered on the role of global cooperation in tackling systemic challenges and promoting shared prosperity. Ambassador Sesay emphasized the need for innovative diplomatic frameworks that facilitate partnerships, foster collaboration, and address common global issues effectively.

Sierra Leone has leveraged the World Governments Summit platform over the years to showcase national achievements, build international networks, and learn modern approaches for enhancing service delivery at home. Notably, during the 2023 Summit, Sierra Leone’s former Minister of Basic and Senior Education, now Chief Minister Dr. David Moinina Sengeh, was honored with the Best Minister Award, reflecting the country’s growing recognition on the global stage.

Ambassador Sesay’s participation underscores Sierra Leone’s commitment to proactive diplomacy and its active engagement in global discussions on governance, innovation, and sustainable development.
