A recent incident involving a 19-year-old resident of Sella Limba Chiefdom in Karene District has brought police brutality concerns to the forefront, raising alarms within the local community. Isatu S. Conteh was reportedly subjected to severe physical assault by an Operational Support Division (OSD) officer attached to the Kamakwie Police Division. The officer in question, known as “Susu Boy,” currently serves as the Station Sergeant (SS) at the division.

The incident, which has ignited widespread anger, was captured on video and is now circulating on social media. The footage reportedly shows Officer “Susu Boy” violently attacking Ms. Conteh, an act that has been attributed to jealousy, as the officer is alleged to be her boyfriend. This revelation has only intensified the public outcry, with many calling for immediate action against the officer.

Local community leaders, human rights groups, and concerned citizens are demanding a thorough investigation into the actions of the officer involved. The assault on Isatu S. Conteh has once again highlighted the persistent issue of police brutality in Sierra Leone and the urgent need for accountability within law enforcement agencies.

“This is not just about Isatu; it’s about the safety and dignity of every citizen,” said a community leader from Sella Limba Chiefdom. “We cannot allow those who are supposed to protect us to become the ones who harm us.”

The incident has also prompted calls for systemic reforms within the police force, particularly regarding the behavior of officers towards civilians. Rights groups have emphasized the importance of swift and appropriate action to ensure that such incidents do not occur in the future. They argue that the officer involved should face legal consequences to serve as a deterrent to others.

As the investigation unfolds, the people of Karene District are watching closely, hoping that justice will be served. The case of Isatu S. Conteh stands as a stark reminder of the power dynamics at play within law enforcement and the critical need for checks and balances to protect citizens from abuse.

Authorities are being urged to not only address this particular incident but also to take broader steps towards ensuring that all police officers adhere to the highest standards of conduct. The community’s demand is clear: accountability, justice, and the protection of human rights must be upheld.
