At the St. Pious Catholic Church at Jagboima Section in Bo on August 11th, 2024, came alive with joy and gratitude as the congregation gathered to celebrate a momentous occasion: the reinstatement of Hon Paran Umaru Tarawally, the Clerk of Parliament, who recently emerged victorious from a cloud of corruption allegations.

The atmosphere was charged with reverence and excitement during the special thanksgiving mass dedicated to the recently vindicated Clerk of Parliament. Hon Paran Tarawally had faced a high-profile investigation that threatened to tarnish his distinguished job. After months of intense scrutiny, the weight of the allegations against him could not terminate his service in the country’s house of legislature, paving the way for his return to the role he has served with unwavering veracity.

As the officiating priest Rev. Fr. John Joe Sandy delivered his sermon, he lauded Hon Tarawally for his steadfast faith and resilience amidst adversity. The church community, buoyed by relief and joy, shared heartfelt testimonies highlighting the Clerk’s positive influence both within the church and the broader community.

In a poignant moment, the Hon Clerk of Parliament addressed the congregation, his voice filled with gratitude. He thanked God, the Catholic community nationwide for their prayers, and his family for their unwavering support during his challenging journey. Reflecting on his experience, he emphasized that faith and resilience were crucial in overcoming trials, crediting the church’s support as instrumental in his vindication.

In a gesture of gratitude, the Clerk announced that his organisation, the Paran Umaru Tarawally (PUT) Foundation, would donate 50 bags of cement to aid in constructing a fence for the church. Demonstrating his commitment, he personally added another 50 bags to the donation. The leadership of St. Pious Catholic Church recognized Hon Tarawally as a devoted parishioner, always solidifying his bond with the community.

Following the mass, parishioners, including local dignitaries, mingled and celebrated the day’s significance. The occasion was not just a personal triumph for the clerk; it underscored the vital themes of justice and truth in public service.

The thanksgiving mass illuminated the deep connection between faith and public life in Sierra Leone, where church communities are integral to the support systems of their members, especially during tumultuous times. For Hon Paran Umaru Tarawally, this day marked not only a personal renewal but also a recommitment to his duties with a revitalized sense of purpose, ready to serve the nation with the integrity that has defined him during the trial.
