A vital bridge connecting Kambia and Amina in Lungi collapsed in the early hours of Saturday, 7th September, 2024, creating disturbances for hundreds of residents who rely on this route for their daily activities. The bridge, which serves as a crucial link for workers, school-going children, business people, farmers, and the general population, has left many stranded as they try to reach their various destinations.
The bridge collapse comes at a critical time as schools have reopened. Many parents and students are now concerned about how they will navigate the area without this essential infrastructure in place. Residents are calling on the attention of concerned authorities to take immediate action to repair the bridge and restore access.
A resident of Lungi, Mohamed Sesay, said, “While the bridge may not be our only option, its collapse makes commuting much more difficult. Other routes are available, but they are far more strenuous, especially for workers and students who rely on this path for a quicker and easier journey.”
Farmers and traders who use the path for their daily activities also voiced concerns about how the collapse will affect their livelihood, as many rely on the bridge to bring their produce to markets in nearby towns.
With school reopening just around the corner, the pressure is mounting on the government and local authorities to respond swiftly to the situation. The community hopes that prompt action will be taken to prevent further disruption to their daily lives.
As residents of Lungi continue to grapple with the issue, all eyes are on the relevant authorities for a swift and effective response to restore normalcy in the area.
