Magistrate Mustapha Briama-Jah of Magistrate Court No.2 in Kenema has recently sentenced one 27-year-old farmer, Karim Momoh of Nyandeyama Village, Nongowa Chiefdom, Kenema District to two years imprisonment for larceny.

The accused was charged to court on three counts ranging from count one, larceny contrary to Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916, count two, wounding contrary to Section 20 of the Offences Against the Person Act of 1861 to count three, Assault occasioning actual bodily harm contrary to Section 47 of the Offences Against the Persons Act of 1861.

Karim Momoh on Friday July 5, 2024 at Nyandeyama Village, Nongowa Chiefdom, Kenema Judicial District in the Eastern Province, did steal quantity of raw cocoa beans valued five hundred New Leones (NLe 500/00) property of Kadie Momoh.

The accused on the same date and place, maliciously wounded Bockarie Momoh. He assaulted him in a manner thereby occasioning him actual bodily harm. The accused pleaded guilty and begged for mercy and was sent to jail at the Sierra Leone Correctional Centre in Kenema for two years.

Before the verdict, Magistrate Mustapha Briama-Jah, having heard from the prosecution and known the record of the accused who pleaded for mercy, did not give an alternative but a custodian sentence on the grounds that criminal conduct must not be entertained within the Kenema Jurisdiction. He therefore sentenced the accused to 2 years imprisonment.

The matter was prosecuted by Police Constable 13576 Sillah Fatmata attached to the Legal and Justice Support Department at the Kenema Police Division.
