In a move to compliment government’s efforts in providing accessible and quality education in rural communities, ActionAid Sierra Leone, handed over newly constructed six-classroom block to the United Methodist Church Primary School in Yorgbofore village and three-classroom block to the Islamic Call Society Primary School in Mosankone village, in Moyamba District, on 18th May 2024, both schools were also equipped with furniture and full toilet facilities.

The United Methodist Church Primary School in Yorgbofore community, Kargboro Chiefdom Moyamba District, is the only primary school serving over nine communities. Speaking at the ceremony, Foday Bassie Swarray, Executive Director Action Aid Sierra Leone, said they are investigating in education, especially in the rural areas, because it is their priority. “This is not the only schools we have constructed and it’s not the last schools also to be constructed,” he said, noting that, as an organization, they are always there to provide supports.

During the unveiling of the schools, the Deputy Minister (1) of the Ministry of Basic Senior Secondary School, Mrs Emily Kadiatu Gogra, commended Action Aid for supporting President Bio Free Quality Education agenda. She described Action Aid as a reliable partner whose interventions always resonate with the needs of the people and government’s strategic plans.

Augustine Philip Simbo, Headteacher of UMC primary school in Yorgbofore community, said they have been struggling for a better building. “The structure which we have been using was not good. The new building constructed for us by ActionAid is a blessing.” he said.
