In a significant effort to combat Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) and provide crucial support to its victims, UN Women has generously donated dignity kits, motorbikes, and various stationery items to the Honorable Minister of Gender and Children’s Affairs in Sierra Leone.

These invaluable resources are earmarked to bolster the capacity of one-stop centers across the country, ensuring that survivors of SGBV have access to essential services and support systems. The donation underscores a concerted commitment to addressing the urgent needs of individuals impacted by SGBV and advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment in Sierra Leone.

The one-stop centers, established to offer comprehensive assistance to survivors of SGBV, play a pivotal role in providing medical, legal, psychosocial, and other essential support services under one roof. However, due to resource constraints, these centers often face challenges in meeting the increasing demand for their services.

The provision of dignity kits, which include hygiene and personal care items, is particularly crucial in restoring dignity and comfort to survivors who have experienced trauma. Additionally, the donation of motorbikes will enhance the mobility of service providers, enabling them to reach remote and underserved communities more efficiently.

Moreover, the stationery items supplied by UN Women will contribute to the smooth operation of one-stop centers, facilitating administrative tasks and ensuring the seamless delivery of services to survivors.

This initiative reflects UN Women’s unwavering commitment to promoting the Women, Peace, and Security agenda, which emphasizes the importance of women’s participation in conflict prevention, resolution, and peacebuilding efforts. By supporting one-stop centers, UN Women is not only addressing the immediate needs of survivors but also advancing long-term efforts to prevent and eliminate SGBV in Sierra Leone.

Furthermore, this initiative aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 5 (SDG 5) to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls. By strengthening the capacity of one-stop centers and ensuring survivors have access to comprehensive support services, UN Women is contributing to the realization of SDG 5 and fostering a more inclusive and equitable society for all.

In light of the ongoing challenges posed by SGBV in Sierra Leone, the donation from UN Women represents a significant step forward in the collective efforts to protect and empower survivors, promote gender equality, and build a more peaceful and just society.

As the country continues its journey towards sustainable development and social transformation, collaborations and partnerships between government entities, international organizations, civil society, and other stakeholders remain essential in addressing the root causes of SGBV and creating a safer and more supportive environment for all.

Through sustained advocacy, investment, and action, Sierra Leone can forge a future where every individual, regardless of gender, can live free from violence, discrimination, and fear, and where the principles of equality, justice, and dignity prevail.
