The Ministry of Information and Civic Education has taken its civic education campaign to Kabala, Koinadugu District, with the launch of the Kabala Civic Day Series aimed at promoting public awareness, citizen participation and national responsibility ahead of the 2026 National Population and Housing Census.
The programme, held at the Koinadugu District Council Hall, brought together community stakeholders, students, media practitioners and members of the public to discuss issues of national importance and strengthen engagement between citizens and government institutions.
Day One of the initiative featured a quiz competition and debate involving six students from different schools in Kabala. The activities provided a platform for young people to demonstrate their knowledge, critical-thinking abilities and understanding of national issues.
The student-centred activities also highlighted the importance of civic responsibility, active citizenship and the involvement of young people in national development.
Beyond the competitions, the Civic Day Series created an opportunity for residents of Koinadugu District to interact directly with government representatives, seek clarification on government policies and express concerns affecting their communities.
The engagement is expected to promote transparency, accountability and constructive dialogue while strengthening the relationship between government institutions and the people they serve.
The Kabala Civic Day Series forms part of the Ministry’s broader commitment to taking government information and civic education closer to communities across Sierra Leone.
With the country preparing for the 2026 National Population and Housing Census, the initiative also seeks to ensure that citizens understand the importance of the national exercise and are adequately informed and prepared to participate.
The Ministry’s outreach underscores the importance of community engagement and access to accurate public information in building an informed citizenry and encouraging meaningful participation in Sierra Leone’s democratic and national development processes.
