For the Chief Executive of Super Squad, the team is boyhood team ‘I played for during my early secondary school days, so I feel obligated to support the team.’ The team has been making an enviable mark to an extent that even sceptics agree that the structure of the team is incomparable. ‘’There shouldn’t be any better time to help than now that many idle boys could go into drugs. My hope that I will one day produce a Super star to benefit not just his family but the country as a whole,’’ Thomas Kamara told me. This is a narrative of passion, love and commitment.
‘’The challenges to support the boys on and off the pitch are crazy, but I do my best and boys can understand me better. I tell them the truth, I preach to them that the team is a community, but the community, and we should endure,’’ the CEO said.
With all being said, it is obvious that the team could now boast of some successes. ‘’The biggest one is to promote the team to Div 1. Reaching the Clozet finals in Lungi and loaning some players in town.’’ This is a sign of a team that is willing, ready and able to progress, but the team also faces challenges as expected. ‘’Financial challenges, not much to do with the game, but dealing with the players personal problems – ranging from health to even their grandparents. As long as they’re playing for your team, you’ve become their foster parent. It’s crazy that the whole Div 2 competition is played without a cent from the District FA or SLFA to help the teams,’’ CEO Thomas lamented.
Speaking on the future of the team, ‘’at this stage that we’ve made it to Div 1. My coach beckoned that he will qualify the team to Premier league and return to groom other grassroots to go through the stages to another Premier league. For me, I have some valuable asset(players) in the team that i may cash out before next season to cover some financial burden to prepare for a Premier league slot,’’ he said.
It is worthy to note that from the very beginning of the ongoing Division Two League, Super Squad from Lungi proved that champions are not only made by scoring goals, but also by building a solid defence. Throughout the competition up to the final stage, they became the only team to concede just two goals — a record that shows discipline, teamwork, determination, and defensive strength.
Their defenders stood like warriors at the back, refusing to give opponents easy chances. Match after match, Super Squad showed great organization, communication, and confidence in defending their badge. Their goalkeeper and backline played with courage and focus, making it very difficult for any team to break them down.
In the final stage, they crowned their impressive journey with a hard-fought 2–1 victory against Sugar Sharge FC from Port Loko. That victory was not just about scoring goals, but about the fighting spirit and defensive mentality that carried them throughout the league.
Super Squad has shown everyone in Division Two that defence wins matches and builds champions. Lungi can truly be proud of this talented and determined team.
