In this March-April edition of the magazine, we bring you special coverage on the health sector of Sierra Leone with a series of articles specifically looking at the transformative reform agendas of Health Minister Dr Austin Demby and Connaught Hospital Care Manager Dr Mark Ibrahim Kapuwa.
Dr. Demby’s leadership at the Ministry of Health has been defined by a clear ambition: to build a resilient, equitable, and accountable health care system capable of delivering quality care to every Sierra Leonean. He brings to the job a wealth of experience from previous jobs he held in the public health space starting from 1980 when he served as a research scientist with the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention to serving as Acting Director of the Office of Global Health at the US Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) prior to taking up his current role as Sierra Leone’s Minister of Health. Dr Demby’s vision is rooted in not only building but strengthening the systems and institutions of the health care sector in Sierra Leone with a view of making health care delivery seamless.
Having Dr Mark Ibrahim Kapuwa at the helm at Connaught Care and University Teaching Hospital has certainly made Dr Austin Demby’s transformative reform agenda at the Ministry much easier.
As the other articles that form part of this series of Cover Story on the health sector in this edition glaring reveal, when Dr. Mark Ibrahim Kapuwa assumed office as Care Manager, he stepped into a role that demanded not only administrative leadership, but vision, resilience, and reform.
Also on display is the authoritative portrayal of how Dr Kapuwa’s tenure at Connaught Hospital is increasingly defined by a deliberate transformation agenda focused on restoring confidence, strengthening systems, and the hospital as a centre of excellence. In his exclusive interview published as part of the Cover Story on the health sector, Dr Kapuwa committed to working hard to leave the hospital much stronger than he met it.
This edition also brings you articles on politics with a special look at the fall-outs of the lower level ward elections of the opposition All Peoples Congress Party, especially the emergence of what is looking like five candidates as the front runners in the APC flagbearer race in preparation for the 2028 elections.
There are lots of other articles, including opinion pieces and features covering agriculture, gender, human rights, mining, economy and finance, business and economy etc.
