Authorities at the Freetown Water Quay have intercepted four 20-foot containers carrying 461 cartons of Tramadol in a major anti-drug operation, officials have confirmed.

The shipment, allegedly linked to a Guinean national, was initially seized by the Sierra Leone Ports and Harbours Authority and later handed over to the Sierra Leone Police and the Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU) for further investigation.

According to preliminary reports, the consignment is believed to have been imported into the country by the foreign suspect, whose identity has not yet been disclosed by authorities.

One individual has already been arrested in connection with the case. The suspect, identified as a driver who arrived at the quay to transport the containers, was apprehended at the scene.

Head of Operations at Water Quay, Brima Kannneh, confirmed the interception and stated that investigations are ongoing. He, however, declined to provide additional details regarding the origin of the shipment or the possibility of further arrests.

The seizure underscores intensified efforts by security agencies to combat the trafficking of controlled substances through Sierra Leone’s ports, amid growing regional concerns over illicit drug networks.

Authorities say the case remains under active investigation as efforts continue to uncover the full scope of the operation and identify all those involved.
