Solidaridad West Africa in Sierra Leone has donated two fairly used Toyota Land Cruiser vehicles to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, in support of the Government’s Feed Salone Initiative: a flagship programme aimed at tackling the country’s food security challenges.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Country Representative Andrew Kojo Morrison emphasised that the donation is designed to bolster the Ministry’s capacity to improve food production, create employment opportunities for Sierra Leoneans, and contribute to national economic growth.

“It is in recognition of these efforts that we are handing over these vehicles to support the Ministry’s work under the Feed Salone Initiative, led by the President of Sierra Leone. Solidaridad appreciates the strong partnership and the enabling environment provided for our operations in the country.”

On behalf of Regional Director Isaac Gyamfi, Solidaridad reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the Ministry and other partners to implement sustainable agricultural programmes that address food insecurity across the country.

Receiving the vehicles on behalf of Minister of Agriculture Dr. Musa Henry Kpaka, Ministry Spokesperson and Director of Extension, Yayah Mansaray expressed sincere appreciation for Solidaridad’s continued support. He commended the organization’s work in strengthening agricultural value chains, particularly in cocoa, coffee, oil palm and cashew, describing Solidaridad as a vital partner in addressing Sierra Leone’s food security challenges.

Mansaray noted that the vehicles will significantly enhance the Ministry’s field operations and improve productivity across farming communities nationwide, and encouraged sustained collaboration for lasting impact.

Solidaridad remains steadfast in its commitment to complementing the Government of Sierra Leone’s efforts through strong partnerships and the delivery of impactful agricultural programmes across the country.

Earlier this week, Solidaridad also supported a fairly used Toyota Land Cruiser vehicle to its local partner, Develop Salone (DESAL), under the EU-funded Jobs and Growth Programme, to expand outreach to cashew farmers in Northern Sierra Leone through the Sustainable Cashew Agroforestry Value Chain project.

Receiving the vehicle, DESAL Executive Director Alhassan Kemoh Sesay, expressed deep appreciation and reaffirmed his organization’s dedication to creating sustainable impact:

“With this support, DESAL will be able to reach many more farmers and make a meaningful impact in their communities.” -Alhassan Kemoh Sesay, Executive Director, DESAL

This support is delivered under the European Union-funded Developing an Inclusive and Sustainable Cashew Agroforestry Value Chain (DISCA-VC) Project -a testament to what strong, trust-based partnerships can achieve.

Together, we are building stronger agricultural value chains and improving livelihoods, one community at a time.
