The Audit Service Sierra Leone (ASSL) benefitted from a three-day capacity-building training aimed at improving the ASSL’s ability to audit public revenues and taxation.

The training was conducted by the Technical Assistance and Exchange Information (TAIEX) funded by the European Union, at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Freetown from Tuesday 24th – Thursday 26th March, 2026.

A total of 42 technical staff drawn from various divisions in Freetown and across the regions participated in the three-day workshop on Revenue and Tax Audits

The sessions were led by two experts from Poland’s Supreme Audit Office (NIK): Ms. Anna Mach, Acting Deputy Director of the Department of National Security, and Ms. Agnieszka Serlikowska, Acting Deputy Director of NIK’s Regional Branch in Bydgoszcz.

The workshop was organized to strengthen the institutional capacity of the Audit Service Sierra Leone (ASSL) in auditing public revenue and taxation from a Supreme Audit Institution perspective. It focuses on enhancing participants’ understanding of audit methodologies for revenue management and tax collection in line with INTOSAI standards, with particular emphasis on risk-based auditing, tax compliance, enforcement mechanisms, and the identification of revenue-related risks and irregularities.

The programme was designed to strengthen ASSL’s institutional capacity to audit public revenues and taxation from the perspective of a Supreme Audit Institution.

The programme focused on audit methodologies for revenue management and tax collection in line with INTOSAI standards, with special attention to risk-based audits, tax compliance, enforcement mechanisms, and the identification of revenue-related risks and irregularities.

Through practical case studies and interactive sessions, the participants were able to sharpen their skills in audit reporting, developing recommendations, and carrying out follow-up actions, all aimed at strengthening oversight, accountability, and governance of public revenues in Sierra Leone
