A team of Spanish medical specialists from the Surgeons in Action Foundation has paid a courtesy visit to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. William Fayia Sellu, on the 2 February 2026, following their arrival in Sierra Leone to begin another round of free surgical operations at the Police Hospital in Kingtom.

Introducing the delegation, the Medical Superintendent of the Police Hospital, ASP Dr. John Mumuneh Konteh, informed the IGP that the visit represents the Foundation’s 12th medical mission to Sierra Leone in the past three years. He praised the IGP’s sustained support, noting that his leadership has contributed to a more enabling work environment and significant modernization of the hospital, leading to improved healthcare services for police personnel and the wider public.

Dr. Konteh disclosed that the visiting team is expected to manage over 200 medical cases, including surgeries for goitre, lipoma, hernia, appendicitis, and other conditions. He added that comprehensive screening exercises are ongoing to ensure that only medically fit patients undergo surgery.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Team Lead Dr. Eduardo Pera Del Pozo expressed gratitude to the Sierra Leone Police and hospital staff for their warm reception and continued collaboration. He explained that the Foundation conducts similar free surgical missions across several African countries and reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with local medical professionals to strengthen skills transfer and improve patient outcomes. He also introduced members of the visiting specialist team.

In his response, IGP Sellu commended the Surgeons in Action Foundation for its consistent humanitarian support and for providing specialized medical services at no cost. He described the partnership as impactful and long-standing, noting that previous surgical missions had attracted patients not only from Sierra Leone but also from neighboring countries such as Liberia, Guinea, and Côte d’Ivoire.

The IGP highlighted the transformation of the Police Hospital into a modern healthcare facility, attributing part of the progress to donations, equipment, and technical expertise provided by the Spanish surgeons over the years. In recognition of their contribution, he presented the team with medical certificates authorizing them to practice in Sierra Leone in line with national regulations.

The visit concluded with a group photograph, marking the start of another life-saving surgical campaign aimed at expanding access to quality healthcare and easing the financial burden on vulnerable patients.
