The newly appointed Minister of Energy, Mr. Cyril A. Grant, has called on the management of the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) to deepen collaboration and demonstrate renewed commitment as the ministry pushes to consolidate recent energy gains and advance President Bio’s vision for national energy sovereignty.

On Tuesday 2 December 2025, speaking during his maiden meeting with EDSA leadership, Mr. Grant described the institution as the backbone of Sierra Leone’s energy sector and one of the country’s most important public utilities, he emphasized the need for teamwork, professionalism, and collective responsibility across all energy-related agencies.

EDSA is the best and biggest institution in our sector. I know there are capable, talented, and dedicated people here who are committed to achieving Sierra Leone’s energy agenda,” the Minister said. His Excellency president Bio stressed the importance of teamwork during my investiture, and that is why I convened this meeting, we cannot afford to fail.

Mr. Grant urged EDSA management and staff to approach their work with a renewed sense of purpose, especially as the country approaches the dry season when demand pressures typically increase. He encouraged them to bend over backwards in overcoming operational challenges and improving service delivery.

Addressing concerns around the proposed energy sector reforms, the Minister reassured the public and EDSA personnel that there is no plan to privatize EDSA, he said ongoing reforms are aimed at efficiency and stability, not at creating hardship or uncertainty for workers or consumers, with the energy sector being central to the government’s Feed Salone agenda, Mr. Grant reaffirmed that reforms will continue to ensure sustainable, reliable, and affordable electricity for all Sierra Leoneans.
