In a major stride toward improving education standards in Kambia District, ABC Organization, in partnership with ActionAid, has launched a fully funded training program that will allow unqualified and community teachers to enroll at the Freetown Polytechnic Kambia Campus at no cost.
The initiative, unveiled on 13 November 2025, targets teachers from Munu-Thala Chiefdom, Magbema Chiefdom, and Munu-Masugbala who have been serving in schools without formal training or certification. The programme aims to strengthen their teaching skills, professional qualifications, and overall classroom performance.
According to the organisers, the project is designed to close the gap created by chronic teacher shortages and to uplift the quality of learning across the district.
Speaking at the launch ceremony, the Director of ABC, Mr. Mohammed Kamara, emphasised that the partnership reflects a strong commitment to improving human resource capacity in the education sector.
This initiative is about giving every child access to a qualified teacher and giving every dedicated community teacher a chance to grow,” he said.
ActionAid representatives noted that many teachers in remote areas have served for years without certification due to financial constraints and limited access to professional institutions. They stated that waiving tuition fees and providing a structured pathway into the Freetown Polytechnic Kambia Campus will not only empower teachers but also strengthen community development.
During the handing-over ceremony, the Deputy Director of Education in Kambia District, Madam Hawa Momoh, encouraged teachers to seize the opportunity and advance their professional capabilities.
Local education stakeholders and school leaders praised the initiative as a timely and transformative intervention that will significantly raise teaching standards and improve pupils’ outcomes.
Enrollment details and eligibility criteria will be announced in the coming weeks. Outreach teams are expected to visit schools and communities to guide interested applicants.
The programme is anticipated to benefit hundreds of teachers and contribute meaningfully to building a stronger, more effective education system in Kambia District.
