Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella.

Celebrations wrapped up on Sunday, 23rd November 2025, drawing hundreds of proud COBIANS back to their historic campus, the week was filled with reflection, thanksgiving, camaraderie, panel discussions, and a colourful match pass that showcased the enduring spirit, discipline, and unity of the institution.

But the undisputed highlight of the anniversary was the unveiling of a 120kW Solar Photovoltaic (PV) system alongside a 100kVA generator, a project championed and facilitated by Dr. Yumkella. Widely described as a turning point, the initiative promises to revolutionize CKC’s energy landscape by ensuring reliable power supply, enhancing campus security, and strengthening both academic and extracurricular activities.

Dr. Yumkella an internationally recognized sustainable energy advocate, former UN Under-Secretary-General, and respected development leader described the project as a personal investment in the institution that laid his academic foundation.

Investing in CKC is investing in the future, he said, reliable energy is essential not only for quality education but also for national development. I am proud to give back to the institution that shaped my journey.

The announcement was met with overwhelming appreciation from alumni, staff, students, and residents of Bo, many attendees described the gesture as visionary and consistent with Dr. Yumkella’s long-standing commitment to expanding access to clean, affordable, and reliable energy across Africa.

According to school administrators, installation of the solar PV system and generator is expected to be completed within three months, once operational, the project will provide stable lighting, support digital learning initiatives, enhance campus safety, and create a more conducive environment for teaching, research, and student growth.

As CKC closes its 72nd Anniversary celebrations, one message echoes across its community: the school is stepping confidently into a new era one powered by innovation, sustainability, and the unwavering loyalty of its alumni.
