The leadership of the Sierra Leone Reporters Union (SLRU) paid a courtesy visit to the Chief Minister, Dr. David Moinina Sengeh, at State House in Freetown. The visit was led by the Union’s first female President, who described the engagement as a significant step toward strengthening collaboration between government and the media for national development.

During the Engagement, SLRU President Esther Yeanor Kabia expressed appreciation to the Chief Minister for granting an audience to the delegation, noting that the Union represents over 600 journalists across the country. She emphasized that the SLRU’s mission is to advocate for the welfare of reporters, those who inform, educate, and engage the public while promoting professionalism, ethics, and media freedom.

She commended the government of His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio for its visible progress under the Big Five Agenda, particularly in Human Capital Development, Agricultural Growth, Youth Employment, Gender Empowerment, and Technology and Innovation.

The SLRU President further noted that the Union is eager to collaborate with the Chief Minister’s Office and the wider government in promoting accurate reporting, combating misinformation, and enhancing the capacity of journalists in development and data-driven reporting.

Chief Minister Dr. David Moinina Sengeh commended the SLRU leadership for their professionalism and sense of purpose. He urged the Union to focus its reporting on the government’s Medium-Term National Development Plan so that citizens can better understand its importance and impact.

Dr. Sengeh emphasized the need for data-driven and fact-based journalism, describing it as a key tool for accountability and evidence-based communication.

He also expressed his willingness to collaborate with the Union in initiatives that promote the welfare, growth, and professionalism of reporters across Sierra Leone.

At the end, both parties reaffirm their commitment to work together in advancing credible journalism and promoting the country’s development aspirations through truthful and responsible reporting.
