
The Mountain City Community, a football-driven youth group renowned for its vibrant sporting culture and grassroots activism, has officially appointed the Minister of Youth Affairs, Mr. Ibrahim Sannoh, as its chief Ambassador and Number One Supporter.
The announcement was made during a courtesy visit by the group’s executive members to the Minister’s office in Freetown, where they presented him with a customized Mountain City FC jersey inscribed with Minister of Youth Mr. Sannoh, the symbolic gesture reflects the community’s appreciation for his tireless efforts in youth empowerment and the promotion of grassroots sports development across Sierra Leone.
In his remarks, Minister Sannoh expressed deep gratitude for the recognition, describing it as a reflection of mutual respect and shared vision between the Ministry of Youth Affairs and community-based youth movements.
This recognition is a reminder that our young people are watching, believing, and engaging with the work we do, he said. Football brings unity, discipline, and hope all of which are vital in our collective fight against drug abuse and in building a resilient generation of young leaders.”
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting youth-led initiatives that use sports as a platform for positive change, adding that his ministry is expanding its engagement with communities to encourage participation in physical fitness, mentorship, and civic development programs.
Representatives of the Mountain City Community commended Minister Sannoh for his open-door leadership style and unwavering support for youth empowerment. They noted that his personal involvement in community programs has inspired many young people to pursue sports, education, and entrepreneurship as pathways to success.
This appointment is not just ceremonial it’s a declaration of partnership, one of the representatives stated; the Minister’s energy, humility, and consistent engagement with young people make him a true champion of the youth.
As part of the collaboration, the Minister has been invited to participate in the group’s upcoming Sunday Jogging and Anti-Drug Campaign, a community-led event designed to raise awareness about the dangers of substance abuse and promote healthy lifestyles among young people.
The campaign will bring together youth groups, sports clubs, and local influencers to advocate for mental health support, rehabilitation programs, and increased government-community cooperation in tackling Sierra Leone’s growing drug crisis, especially the use of Kush among urban youth.
The partnership between the Ministry of Youth Affairs and the Mountain City Community marks a renewed focus on sports as a tool for social transformation. Through initiatives like this, the government aims to amplify youth voices, strengthen civic participation, and build stronger community networks that promote peace, discipline, and unity.
