The confederation of African football (CAF), in partnership with the Sierra Leone football association (SLFA), has officially launched the safe stadium initiative workshop in Bo City a landmark step toward improving safety and security standards in Sierra Leone’s football arenas.

The one-day workshop brought together safety officers from all 18 premier League clubs across the country and focused on raising awareness, sharing best practices, and implementing modern safety measures ahead of the 2025–2026 football season.

Sierra Leone’s participation in this CAF-driven initiative which includes 30 countries across Africa highlights the nation’s growing commitment to addressing safety challenges in football. The program comes at a crucial time, amid increasing emphasis on crowd management, stadium security, and fan protection across the continent.

CAF safety experts from Côte d’Ivoire and Uganda joined the workshop to provide technical guidance and share experiences from their respective national leagues, their participation fostered a cross-country exchange of knowledge and expertise, strengthening Sierra Leone’s capacity to manage risks effectively and ensure a secure environment for both players and spectators.

In his remarks, a representative from the SLFA emphasized that the initiative reflects Sierra Leone’s dedication to aligning with international safety standards in sports management, our goal is to make every stadium in the country a place of excitement, not danger, he said, reaffirming SLFA’s commitment to continuous improvement in match organization and crowd safety.

the Safe Stadium Initiative is expected to transform the culture of football safety in Sierra Leone, creating a stronger foundation for collaboration among national stakeholders, clubs, and regional football associations, the long-term impact is projected to enhance public confidence in attending matches, ensuring safer, more inclusive, and enjoyable experiences for fans, players, and staff alike.
