Residents of the Kissy community in the eastern part of Freetown have expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) for the remarkable improvement in power supply within their area. For several consecutive days, the community has enjoyed uninterrupted electricity, a development that many described as both refreshing and transformative.
According to residents, the consistent power supply has brought significant relief to households, businesses, and students who had long struggled with frequent outages. Shop owners and small-scale entrepreneurs say they can now operate for longer hours without relying on costly generators reducing operational expenses and increasing profits.
Madam Hawa Koroma, a resident of Kissy Shell, expressed joy over the improvement:
“Before now, we used to experience constant blackouts that disrupted our daily activities. But today, EDSA has changed that narrative. We now have light almost every day,” she said with satisfaction.
The reliable electricity has also been a blessing to students who can now study comfortably at night. Parents in the community described the development as a sign that the government, through EDSA, is fulfilling its promise of providing stable and affordable electricity to citizens.
Several youth leaders have pledged to support EDSA’s maintenance and community outreach programs to ensure the sustainability of the system.
Local business operators at Kissy Market reported a surge in productivity and improved customer satisfaction. Cold room operators, tailors, welders, and beauty salon owners say that reliable electricity has helped them meet customer demand on time, boosting the local economy.
One trader, Mr. Ibrahim Mansaray, shared his experience:
“EDSA has truly empowered us. We no longer lose perishable goods due to power failure. Our businesses are growing again.”
Community elders also commended EDSA’s management and staff for their dedication to improving power distribution. They encouraged the authority to maintain this momentum and extend similar improvements to other parts of the country that still face frequent blackouts.
“Consistency is what we ask for,” one elder remarked. “If EDSA continues like this, Sierra Leone will soon experience a total energy transformation.”
Technical officers within EDSA revealed that the improved power supply in Kissy is part of the authority’s broader national strategy to enhance electricity distribution and reliability across Sierra Leone. Recent investments include the installation of new transformers, upgraded cabling systems, and modern control technologies aimed at minimizing outages and ensuring voltage stability.
In addition, EDSA’s customer service delivery has improved significantly, with faster fault response times and a more transparent billing process. Residents noted that EDSA’s community engagement teams have been visiting neighborhoods to educate customers on electrical safety and energy conservation, an initiative that has strengthened public trust and cooperation.
As the Kissy community continues to celebrate this milestone, residents view the improved electricity supply as a sign of progress and development for Sierra Leone. They called on the government and EDSA to sustain these gains, emphasizing that constant electricity is vital for national growth, education, and economic prosperity.
With smiles of gratitude, the people of Kissy expressed optimism that the light will continue to shine not only in their community but across the entire nation illuminating the path toward a brighter and more prosperous Sierra Leone.
