The Bo Civic Day celebrations commenced in grand style at the Wizard Complex on Dambala Road, bringing together students, government officials, and community leaders for a day of learning and civic engagement. On October 13, 2025 , the event opened with welcoming remarks from the Resident Minister South, John Abu, who expressed gratitude to the government for “bringing governance closer to the people.” He urged participants to embrace the spirit of Civic Day and work together to promote national unity and civic responsibility.

In a traditional gesture, a representative of the Paramount Chief performed the libation ceremony, invoking blessings from the ancestors for the success of the occasion and the well-being of the people of Bo District.

The program, chaired by Mohamed Jaward Nyallay from the Strategic Communications Unit in the Ministry of Information, featured a series of competitions aimed at fostering civic awareness among students.

One of the highlights of the day was the quiz competition, which saw fierce participation from leading secondary schools in Bo. After an intense contest, Queen of the Rosary School (QRS) emerged victorious, with student Jestina J. Smith leading her team to a decisive win over Tawheed Secondary School and Christ the King’s College.

Radiating joy after the announcement, Jestina told reporters that she was “excited about the victory” and looked forward to winning more academic laurels in the future. As part of her prize, she received NLe 1,500 and a school bag filled with learning materials.

Delivering the vote of thanks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information, Communication and Civic Education commended the organizers and participants for their enthusiasm and sportsmanship. He encouraged students to continue striving for excellence and to uphold the values of civic education in their schools and communities.

The Bo Civic Day series continues with more activities designed to promote civic engagement, youth participation, and patriotism among Sierra Leone’s next generation.
