Stakeholders in Kambia District has on Sunday the 12 October 2025, pledged their unwavering commitment to promoting sustainable tourism following the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs’ nationwide Nature-Based Ecotourism Digital Training.

The initiative, which forms part of the government’s broader effort to strengthen eco-friendly tourism practices, aims to build local capacity while safeguarding the nation’s rich natural and cultural resources for both economic and environmental sustainability.

In Kambia, the training drew participation from traditional leaders, local authorities, youth groups, and community-based organizations. The engagement fostered strong support for ecotourism as a practical and inclusive development strategy capable of driving growth and protecting heritage simultaneously.

Speaking during the ceremony, the Paramount Chief Member of Parliament highlighted Kambia’s abundant natural beauty and historical landmarks as underutilized assets with huge potential for tourism investment. He reaffirmed his district’s dedication to sustainable tourism by signing the Ecotourism Pledge Banner, a symbolic act of partnership and accountability.

Other key stakeholders followed suit, adding their signatures to the pledge as a demonstration of collective will to transform Kambia into a vibrant and sustainable ecotourism destination.

The Ministry’s program aligns with Sierra Leone’s national tourism agenda, which emphasizes responsible tourism, community participation, and the conservation of environmental and cultural heritage.

As the country continues to position tourism as a driver of economic diversification, initiatives like this not only empower communities but also ensure that the nation’s unique natural landscapes and traditions are preserved for generations to come.
