The Ministry of Internal Affairs has officially commenced a week-long Regional Stakeholders Consultation in Kenema as part of the nationwide process to develop its Strategic Development Plan (SDP) for the period 2026–2030. The consultation, taking place from August 25th to 29th and concluding with a follow-up session on September 9th, 2025, marks a significant milestone in the Ministry’s efforts to align its vision and operations with national development goals.
Under the dynamic leadership of the Minister of Internal Affairs, Retired Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Morie Lengor Esq., the Ministry has taken commendable steps toward inclusivity and transparency in the drafting of the new strategic plan. Earlier this year, a brainstorming session was held with Ministry staff, followed by a high-level consultative meeting involving Heads of Agencies and Departments under its purview, leading to the development of the Draft Strategic Development Plan.
The Kenema engagement, supported by the Government and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), brings together a diverse group of stakeholders. Participants include representatives from the Ministry’s Agencies and Departments, local authorities, government officials, Chiefdom Administrators, Local Councils, Civil Society Organizations, and community representatives from Kono, Kailahun, and Nongowa Chiefdom.
In a symbolic and culturally significant moment, a representative of the Paramount Chief poured traditional libation, calling on the spirits of the ancestors to bless and guide the process , a gesture that underscores the importance of community ownership and indigenous participation in national planning efforts.
The primary objective of the consultations is to finalize and validate the draft SDP. The plan aims to enhance the Ministry’s performance, ensuring effective supervision of its agencies and departments while setting a clear and coherent direction in terms of its vision, mission, mandate, and strategic priorities.
Once completed, the Strategic Development Plan (2026–2030) is expected to serve as a foundational document that strengthens governance, promotes national cohesion, and supports sustainable development across Sierra Leone.
As the consultation tour continues in other regions, the Ministry reiterates its commitment to transparency, accountability, and inclusive governance in delivering on its mandate for the people of Sierra Leone
