Justice Hon. Abdul Sheriff of the high court of Sierra Leone in Kenema has jailed one Nineteen-year (19yrs) old Sheku Sesay an unemployed youth in Kenema to Twenty-Six years (26yrs) imprisonment on five counts charges ranging from burglary contrary to section 25(1) of the larceny act 1916 to malicious damage contrary to section 51 of the malicious damage act 1861.
The convict, Sheku Sesay on April 1, 2025, at Kenema city, with the intent to commit a felony, broke and entered into a dwelling house of Marian Yatta Rogers. Sheku Sesay on the aforementioned date and Venue, attempted to murder Marian Yatta Rogers. The convict also wounded Marian Yatta Rogers with intent to cause her grievous bodily harm. Sheku Sesay maliciously wounded Mustapha Ginnah. He maliciously damaged one wooden door valued at One Thousand Five Hundred New Leones (NLe 1,500), five leaves of celotex valued at Two Hundred New Leones (NLe 200) and assorted electrical cables valued at Six Hundred New Leones (NLe 600) all to the total valued of Two Thousand, Nine Hundred New Leones (NLe 2,900), properties of Yatta Rogers.
The convict, Sheku Sesay, pleaded not guilty on all the counts charges. Defence counsel, Samuel. S. Pessima of Legal Aid Board in Kenema, applied that the convict changes his plea. Charges were read and explained to him. He pleaded guilty to all the five count charges. Samuel. S. Pessima on behalf of the convict, pleaded with the court to temper Justice with mercy.
According to Samuel. S. Pessima, Sheku Sesay was remorseful and that he would improve on his conduct if given the opportunity.
Considering the guilty verdict taken by the convict and the plea in mitigation done on his behalf by defence counsel for the court to temper Justice with mercy, Justice Abdul Sheriff sent the convict, Sheku Sesay to the Sierra Correctional Service (SLCS) in Kenema for Twenty-Six years years(26yrs.) imprisonment.
The matter was prosecuted by Andrew. F. Kamara, State counsel and customary law officer in Kenema district.
