Edna Amie Ngegba is making an indelible mark in Sierra Leone’s media landscape. From her humble beginnings in the southern region to becoming one of the most influential female media voices in the north, her story is one of grit, purpose, and inspiration.

Makeni, Sierra Leone — Edna Amie Ngegba is a name that commands respect in Sierra Leone’s media circles. A trailblazer from the southern region who found her voice and impact in the North, Edna has risen above geographic and gender boundaries to establish herself as a celebrated media personality and advocate for gender equity in journalism.

Born in Sierra Rutile, Edna’s early education at UBC Primary School in Moriba Town laid the foundation for her academic excellence. In 2008, she relocated to Makeni, where she attended St. Joseph’s Secondary School and later earned her Higher Certificate in Home Economics at the Northern Polytechnic.

Her passion for journalism grew stronger as she realized the power of communication to create change. Edna earned a diploma in Development Communications from UNIMAK, combining her academic skills with real-world experience. She currently serves as the producer of programs at Radio Maria Makeni and Head of the Department of Home Economics at Benevolent Secondary School.

Among her groundbreaking achievements, Edna stands out as the only female court journalist in the North, reporting on both Magistrate and High Court cases in Bombali. Her courageous reporting, community engagement, and impactful storytelling have earned her numerous accolades, including recognition as Bombali’s best female journalist since 2020 and being named among the district’s 50 most influential women.

Beyond journalism, Edna has worked with both national and international organizations, gaining fellowships and sharing her skills with the next generation of journalists. As the Regional Chairperson for Women in the Media Sierra Leone (WIMSAL), she champions the cause of empowering women in media.

Her journey is one of strength and service. A single woman with no children, Edna dedicates her time to mentorship, supporting aspiring journalists and shaping the media landscape in Sierra Leone’s northern region.

Edna Amie Ngegba’s story is not just about personal success—it’s about using her platform to uplift others, redefine norms, and leave a legacy of integrity in Sierra Leonean journalism.
